This tenor/ bass duet personifies the conversation a godly father would have with his son, encouraging him to live for the Lord and not to live for the world or self. In each verse the father exhorts the son what he should or should not be doing, and in the chorus, the father encourages the son to follow his footsteps (Proverbs 23:26). The chorus is a conversation with the father (bass) calling for the son’s
attention and the son (tenor) responding in attentive obedience.

Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
