Today’s post will be a little shorter than usual. Most of my creative energy has been poured into writing a song for our ladies’ luncheon and then producing a video to help the ladies of our church learn the song. So I will go ahead and share that song with you, too!
There’s something so special about getting a group of ladies together to enjoy a meal, and each year our church hosts an informal and enjoyable ladies’ luncheon. Though I say the luncheon is informal, careful thought and planning still takes place, but the lunch is relaxed and the planning manageable for our small church.
We enjoy a wonderful time of food and fellowship together at our ladies’ luncheons. Over the years, the meals have ranged from steak and potatoes to dainty chicken sandwiches on croissants to an elaborate charcuterie board. After eating a pleasant meal, we then feast on God’s Word as an invited speaker shares some lesson that God has laid on her heart.
Last year, our theme was Ruth: A Virtuous Woman and our very own pastor’s wife brought the challenge to us. She chose Ruth 1:16 as the theme verse for our luncheon.
And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither though goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.
I wrote a song using that verse entitled “Intreat Me Not to Leave Thee” as our theme song. You can download that song here.
This year my pastor’s wife approached me again about writing a song for our ladies’ luncheon. With about a month and a half to write the song, I knew I needed to get cracking! I am not a fast writer, and if you asked my husband, he would tell you that I worked and reworked the song so many times.
Our theme for this year is "Walking By Faith" with a focus on Matthew 6:25-26 and Philippians 4:6. Both of these passages talk about God’s care for His children, but with the recent addition of chickens to our home, the passage in Matthew 6:25-26 really captured my attention.
Matthew 6:25-26 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
The last phrase of verse 26 gave me the inspiration for the title of my new song, “Better than the Birds.” Below are the words, and you can also download a free copy of this song below. My heart would be blessed to know if other churches could use this song in some way! Please feel free to share it with others.
Verse 1
Life’s cares can make us fret
“How will our needs be met?”
Our loving Father knows
Each need for food and clothes
He wants to hear us cast our cares
To Him in daily prayers!
Chorus
See the birds of the air
How they fly without care
If God the birds can feed
Then He knows your every need
You are better than the birds, so much better than the birds.
And God loves you, yes, He loves you so much more!
Verse 2
The seeds the birds don’t sow
And yet their food does grow
And neither do they reap
In barns to store and keep
God spreads a feast for ev’ry bird
And we can trust His Word!
Chorus
See the birds of the air
How they fly without care
If God the birds can feed
Then He knows your every need
You are better than the birds, so much better than the birds.
And God loves you, yes, He loves you so much more!
Dear readers, if you printed the songs and used them in some way, whether in personal worship or in a church setting, would you drop me a comment below? My heart would be so happy to know that someone was blessed by my music.
May your heart be encouraged to know that God loves you and cares about you!

I loved reading both songs! I printed them off and can't wait to go back to church so that I can try them on the piano! Thank you for sharing! <3
