New Homeschool Dresser

As I shared a few weeks ago, I found a beautiful white armoire recently at the thrift store. On that same thrifting trip, I found another piece that I’d like to share with you today!

****************************

Quickly, I zoomed with my children to the back of the store where furniture resides. I first spotted the white armoire. With my sights set on claiming the purchase ticket, I impatiently scolded a poky child to move out of the way (not one of my finer mothering moments). After securing the ticket, I relaxed knowing this piece was coming home with us.

I began to peruse the rest of the furniture selections, and to my amazement, another charming piece caught my eye (décor tip: for me to bring something home, the item has to catch my eye). I couldn’t believe my eyes! 2 beautiful and well-priced pieces in one shopping trip! For the girl who used to complain, “I never find things at the thrift store,” these finds were a sure victory (and ultimately the kindness of my Heavenly Father).

Earlier in the week, I had looked around our tiny kitchen wondering how I was going to fit all the necessaries for my budding homeschool students in very limited storage space. Honestly, I didn’t complain in my heart, just chuckled a wondering at my predicament. I wouldn’t say I really prayed but rather uttered a thought to the Lord of, “I know You are going to help me solve this problem!” In quiet confidence, I continued my day and thought no more of the storage issue.

(Dear friends, if God calls you to live in a small home, He will make a way for life to work in that space! I have seen God provide and give creativity many times.)

As I saw the 2nd piece at the thrift store, I knew instantly that this was the solution to my homeschool storage conundrum and the gracious gift of a loving Father to a trusting heart.

The charming character and well-made drawers drew my attention to this dresser. As the kind workers loaded the piece into our truck, one man informed me that the piece needed a new back. Too happy over my new find to really contemplate the dresser’s one flaw, I headed home with my newest treasure.

My wise and practical husband instantly noted the dresser’s wobbly stature (I learned that the back to a piece of furniture actually holds the entire piece together!) In short time, my husband secured scrap wood to the back, and now the piece stands sturdy and secure.

This piece houses our budding young artist’s growing supply of art goods. It also houses our newest student’s books and necessities. I now have room to group all of our math manipulatives together in one spot instead of a little here and there, and I even have extra space in this piece, oh glorious day! (Whenever I have extra space in a piece of furniture, I am confident that clutter is not taking the charge.)

Friends, this post was not just about decorating and thrifting, though I enjoy both. I hope you see the loving hand of my Heavenly Father Who is ready to meet my genuine needs. My prayer is that whoever reads this blog will be strengthened in a personal walk with God and will see His fingerprints over every detail of life, even something small like a thrifted dresser.
