Happy Thanksgiving, dear readers! You are part of the special group who takes a genuine personal interest in me and what I’m attempting to accomplish here at the website. Taking time (and going the extra mile) shows extra care and concern, and I thank you for reading and supporting this blog!
At the risk of writing about the expected, today’s post will focus on thankfulness with the fast-approaching Thanksgiving holiday. At the risk of sound cliché or trite, I want to share a few thoughts about gratitude that I hope will warm your heart.
Gratitude has truly changed my life. If I had to take a personality test, my results would probably pop up with “Eeyore” at the top of the paper. I am a naturally grouchy, negative, “glass half empty” type of person who can very easily rely way too heavily on emotions.
As God has been working in my life over the past decade, He has continued to peel off layer after layer of selfishness and pride, and as He strips me of my fleshly attitudes, it’s as if I see the world in a whole new way. It’s as if God has taken off the glasses of “me first” and replaced them with “look-at-My-goodness” glasses. When I see the world through the perspective of God’s personal goodness to me, it’s as if the whole world is alive with His presence and all my being wants to sing in praise to Him.
Psalm 145:9, a short little verse packed with powerful truths, has cut me to the core many times and also helped me wage mental battles against ingratitude.
Ps 145:9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
This verse has helped me when questions such as these attack my mind:
How can I praise God when life isn’t going my way?
The Lord is good which means He knows what is best for me. His will is the best plan for my life.
How can I praise God when I have unfulfilled dreams and desires?
The Lord is good which means He alone can truly satisfy the longings of my heart.
How can I praise God when others seem to have life so good?
The Lord is good to all, and that word all includes me! God hasn’t left me out of His goodness distribution. Everything God does is with tender mercy and kindness in mind. He is not out to destroy me! God’s tender mercy covers everything He does. I also never know what other people are going through, and their lives may not be as peachy as they portray.
I must fix my gaze steadfastly on the only One Who can truly satisfy the longings of my heart (I’m preaching to myself here, folks!). I must rest in His goodness. I must trust that He has my personal best interest at heart.
This is my God, and He is worthy of my praise! What do you praise God for today?

Thankful for you and for these good reminders! I had the opportunity to play your arrangement of "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" at church this past Sunday; it was a blessing to find an arrangement that was both lovely and easy to learn.
Love hearing these thoughts! I also have found that gratitude is so powerful. I'm very thankful to be enjoying my children (ironically being more thankful for them) than I have been in previous years. God's been working on my heart to be more gracious with them and slow down to see the delights they are and that they enjoy. I'll share Ps. 145:9 and your music with my family tomorrow. Thank you for sharing them here. - Heather K.
